Your Body Image – What Is Happening In The Brain?

Have you ever wondered why you look different in every mirror? Sometimes slightly and other times a lot. It depends on the mirror and a lot of other things in that space. Sometimes you look thinner and sometimes bigger. Gym mirrors are made specially to make you look more pumped. Snapchat made a mirror where you have a filter on your mirror 24/7 so you can look like a donkey with his tongue out. You can literary look like anything you want and it’s all to do with one thing. Light.
You look different in different mirrors because light reflects differently from different mirrors hence the images look different. The slightly different reflection or bend of light transforms the image completely. What does this mean then?
It means that you have an image implanted of your body image. Influenced and shaped by many mirrors including your parents, partners, friends, society, actual mirrors and other factors. These influences (mirrors) or data have shaped what you think of your body. We are constantly feeling feedback from society about our body image, hence shaping our body image. It’s basic programming really.
“Are you beach body ready” with a hot bikini model was the campaign for Protein World (a “health” brand) on London Underground in 2016. It astonished me to such an extent that my response was the Naked/nudist back-to-basics Restaurant (The Bunyadi) which even captured Ellen De Generes attention who talked about it on her show. It became the single most famous restaurant in the world as it attempted to remove the taboo of bodies and give a safe space to people, free of judgement.
Society will however keep reminding you how you look, according to their aims. Companies. People. Family. Partners. They all have ideas in their minds about what they consider perfect body image. And that comes out in many ways to program your brain about your body image.
But a body image is simply how light hits your body and is perceived by you or others. This means body image can be changed by understanding light. This understanding is paramount to fixing extreme illness issues including anorexia. It’s a neurological (programming) issue – there isn’t another wrong with the person at all. They just see things differently. And that is fine too.
Light is energy which likes energy. It will help illuminate the image in a totally different way if it’s met with energy. You see, there isn’t a difference at an atomic level between light and you and by understanding that, you can start changing the image signal of your body. For your brain and also for other brains.
Albert Einstein (trust this guy as it’s because of him, you are reading this on your phone really) said, “Everything is energy, and that’s all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy, this is physics.”
If you are more person and aware of the energy that you are, your body slowly adapts to that and light is reflected differently from you. When we show the body via meditation and other practices, our true face, it syncs with our energy. Hence, eventually, you are seen totally differently by people and by yourself.
I know many people started their journeys recently and have been meditating and following a kind of guidance path. I wish you could look at them. They glow differently. They feel different. They look different. They are different.
And because of all of this, you become different. You as in the person become different. Sebastian looks and feels different. A newer person. Many people won’t even recognise me after this change. My body. My face. My hair. My walk. My talk. My speed. My sleep. Everything. It’s like it all got an update. Much needed 2.0 Human update.
However, I ask myself. Have I changed?
My body has changed. I breathe properly, I am in total and absolute bliss and stillness inside all the time. I feel light and empty as carry a sense of emptiness inside me. My brain is here in the now submitted to me. Everything has changed. It feels changed. It looks changed. It has changed. But something is the same. Me.
Have the knowledge or taste of chocolate changed? Or has the smell of roses changed? Perhaps they do taste and smell better simply because the body becomes very healthy. So I get to experience life and its beauty in a better way, sure. But has the knowledge changed? Has the love for my mother changed? Or the love for tea? Has the love for serving and helping others changed? Has any love changed? Has the sound of birds or the feeling of wind changed? Has the thought of meeting a loved one changed? The end of the point where I received life experiences hasn’t changed. It’s the same endpoint where you receive all your life too. Hence we agree on the smell of sandalwood or the taste of ginger. Perception is different as we train our brains differently to process all (or limited) tastes, but the knowledge or the taste is the same.
Hence we are all experiencing just one life, through different apparatus which we call Sebastian, Amy, John and so on.
So has life changed? For me. No.
This is the magic of this reality. Experiences change. Sometimes massively. “Good or bad” is defined by the brain. But the thing which says “I am” or “Me”. (Not the name and the person, but the feeling of life and being alive). This never changes. This is what you are when you feel or know of anything. The stillness which never changes. The knower of the knowing. The observer of the observed. The live-er of the life.
Perception changes. Which changes the outlook in this world cultivating love within and with-out. But the reality of your existence doesn’t change. The unchanging doesn’t change. And this unchanging is just there. Observing. Knowing. Watching. Alive. And aware of all movement of life, which is essentially a movement of frequencies in terms of lights and sounds.
Be still (properly, outside the 5 senses and the brain) and know that for movement to be experienced, there must be stillness.
The movement happens around the stillness. Look at a circle going around.
Look at anything rotating, cyclical… To observe movement, one must be still.
Your nature is that stillness which is experiencing the movement of life.
The cycle of life.
You have to go there to understand what’s wrong with all that’s happening in this cycle. In life. Or if there is anything wrong? Nothing wrong with the body image as this is just a moving thought which will come and go for you, but for Sebastian – he likes owning and keeping things. Bless him, I let him. I even let him be insecure about this body if he is. It’s his conditioning. I can’t do anything about it. Sebastian realises eventually it’s just not worth it as there are bigger discoveries to be made here about the nature of life.
You see, there isn’t just anything wrong with anything. That is what you realise when you go to the stillness of what you are. You are in peace as you understand your true nature – which is outside of thought and thinking and external to the endless, perpetually emotional and physically anxious movement of this brain and hence what we call life.
It’s time to realise the peace which we already are. It’s time for the brain to understand what is actually going in inside and listen to you. It’s time to understand the nature of reality. Not mirrors.
